UM Journalism Dean Named Interim VP For Communication

By Beacon Staff

The dean of the University of Montana School of Journalism has been named the university’s interim vice president for integrated communications.

Peggy Kuhr started her new duties on Tuesday and will report to UM President Royce Engstrom.

Kuhr also is chairwoman of the committee searching for the new vice president for integrated communications and will return to her role as dean once the new hire begins work. She has been the dean for five years.

Engstrom says Kuhr has a strong journalism background and insists on transparency.

Kuhr says she understands the need for the university to communicate quickly and clearly with the public.

The communications job opened up in June when Jim Foley stepped down as vice president of external relations.
