The University of Washington is reviving an old football rivalry against the University of Montana.
UW athletic director Scott Woodward announced Friday the Huskies will host the Grizzlies on Sept. 2, 2017. It will be the first matchup between the football teams since 1951.
Montana and Washington both played in the Pacific Coast Conference from 1924 to 1950 and played each other 18 times during that time period. All but one game was being played in Seattle. Washington leads the series 16-1-1 with Montana’s only win coming in 1920.
Montana won Football Championship Subdivision national championships in 1995 and 2001 and posted runner-up finishes in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2009.
The Montana game is the only confirmed, non-conference game on the Huskies’ 2017 schedule. Originally, a home game vs. Wisconsin had been slated for 2017, but that game has been moved to 2018.
