Eureka Man Dies In Garbage Truck Crash

By Beacon Staff

A Eureka man was killed when the garbage truck he was driving drifted off a northwestern Montana highway and down an embankment.

The Montana Highway Patrol says 49-year-old Maurice F. Egan died in the crash at 9:45 a.m. Friday.

The patrol says Egan was driving a Lincoln County garbage truck on Highway 37 when he overcorrected for an unknown reason, causing the loaded trailer to separate from the truck and tip, dumping the garbage onto the roadway.

The Missoulian reports Egan overcorrected again, causing the truck to run off a steep embankment on the opposite side of the road. The highway was closed for more than four hours after the crash.
