Gov. Schweitzer to Speak at DNC Convention

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Gov. Brian Schweitzer, on the list of potential speakers for the Democratic National Convention this week, said he will brag about Montana if he gets the chance to address the convention.

The governor’s office said Schweitzer could speak either Wednesday or Thursday to the delegates gathering in Charlotte, N.C.

Schweitzer said he would like to attract attention to Montana by talking about its low taxes, state government surplus, and what a great place it is to live and invest.

But the governor wasn’t wasting his time waiting to find out if he gets the podium.

Schweitzer was also making several appearances on cable news networks and speaking to smaller groups. Schweitzer’s schedule included meetings Thursday with delegates from key primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire.

But the term-limited governor continues to dismiss any suggestion he plans to run for president in 2016. He said it is just a coincidence he will have breakfast meetings with those groups.

“You have to have breakfast somewhere,” Schweitzer said.
