In the final event of the season, Bodie Morton claimed his second Super Late Model victory last weekend at Montana Raceway Park. Ryan Wells placed second and successfully defended the points championship, which tallied results from five events this summer. Wells edged Morton by nine. Alex Lessor finished third by 19 points.
Agni Howell finished third in the Super Late Model main event. Wells took the A trophy dash and Don Staggs claimed the B dash. In the first of two heat races, Billy Salmonsen edged Braedon Havens to claim the win. Trevor Emond ran away from Wrango West in the A heat race.
Ryan Krause earned his first main-event victory in the Hornet division. Krause leads the points chase with one race remaining. Keith Sheppard set fast time. Dennis Galloway took home the hardware in the trophy dash. Sheppard and Krause battled in the heat race with Sheppard taking the win.
For the first time this season the Mini Cup racing series ran on the high banks of Montana Raceway Park. The Future Stars of Racing ranged in age from 8 to 16 years old. This group paired up with the Bandolero division and put on an exhibition event. Brock Denney took the fast time. Autumn Kopeck won the B trophy dash and Brock Denney took the A dash. In the Heat race Brock Denney had the upper hand and claimed the win. Lane Hamilton was the top finishing Mini Cup driver in the Heat race. Brock Denney claimed the main event win for the Bandolero division and Lane Hamilton took the win for the Mini Cup division.
Bill McCallum finished first in the 30-lap main event for the Bombers. Warburton was second and Josh Norris was third. Warburton leads the points by 26 points over McCallum with one race remaining. Troy Pilgram started off his night by setting fast time. McCallum won the B trophy dash and Pilgram won the A dash. McCallum edged Josh Norris to win the heat race.
The final racing event of the 2012 season is Saturday evening. The night will feature Brandon Sickler and Tyler Corpron battling for a 26-point difference in the Lucas Oil Super Stocks, Marvin Stone and Dustin Martel trying to settle an 11-point difference in the Don K Hobby Stocks, Chris Warbuton and Bill McCallum separated by 26 points in the Bombers, and Ryan Krause and Keith Sheppard neck and neck in the Hornet division separated by nine points.
Time trials begin at 6 p.m. and racing is at 7 p.m. The nights festivities will wrap up with a large fireworks show. For tickets and more information visit online or call 406-257-RACE (7223).
Montana Raceway Park’s 22nd annual awards banquet will top off the season on Oct. 13 at the Hilton Garden Inn. Doors open at 5 p.m. The event is open to the public. Tickets are on sale for $33.
