Locals Raise Money for Diabetes Research

By Beacon Staff

Three years ago, Taite Hammer was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just 20 months old. Three years later he has an insulin pump and is doing better, but that is not stopping his parents from looking for a cure. On Sept. 22, Mike and Shana Hammer, and a family friend, will walk 40 miles through the Flathead Valley to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The walk will start in Columbia Falls and the three will wrap their way up and down the Flathead Valley, ending at Scotty’s Bar in Kalispell, where an ‘80s themed party will be held that night.

People interested in donating can drop contributions off at Western Building Centers in Kalispell, Whitefish, Columbia Falls and Eureka. For more information visit www.jdrfevents.donordrive.com.
