Award-winning Poet Lois Red Elk to Speak at FVCC

Award-winning Native American poet Lois Red Elk will speak at Flathead Valley Community College on Oct. 8.

Red Elk has devoted her life to promoting and preserving the Dakota/Lakota culture. Her book of poems “Our Blood Remembers” won an award from the Native Writers’ Circle of the Americas and was a finalist for the High Plains Book Award. The book was published by FVCC’s Many Voices Press in 2011.

Red Elk, a resident of Wolf Point, has been a television and radio talk show host and freelance writer. She is currently an adjunct professor at Fort Peck Community College on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.
