U.S. Sen. Jon Tester is reporting his biggest fundraising quarter yet as his re-election battle against U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg remains tight.
Tester reported raising $2.3 million from July 1 through the end of September.
That tops the $2 million the Democrat raised in the second quarter, and left him with $1.3 million cash on hand heading into the last month before the Nov. 6 election.
Fundraising figure for the Republican congressman Rehberg were not yet available as of Thursday afternoon.
Throughout the election cycle, Tester has raised more money than his opponent. But both sides have received substantial assistance by spending from unaffiliated third-party groups who are attacking the candidates.
The campaign is one of the most closely-watched Senate campaigns in the country.
