Washington Post Names Pat and Carol Williams Montana’s Biggest Political Dynasty

By Beacon Staff

The folks over at The Washington Post’s political blog “The Fix” wanted to find out who the biggest political family dynasties are in each state. Some are obvious, like the Kennedys in Massachusetts. But to find out the less obvious dynasties, The Fix asked its readers.

The results have come in and Montana’s biggest political dynasty, according to The Fix, is the Williamses: longtime former Democratic Congressman Pat Williams and his wife Carol, the minority leader in the state Senate. Carol’s father, Vern Griffith, was mayor of Butte.

Pat Williams served nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1997 and was the last Democrat to hold the position, which is currently held by Republican Denny Rehberg.
