LETTER: Nation That Forgets God Will Feel God’s Judgment

By Beacon Staff

Like many Americans I watched some of the events at both the Democratic and Republican Conventions. I was not greatly inspired by either party; however, I was shocked as I listened to one session of the Democratic convention when the presiding chairman, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, was desperately endeavoring to lead the convention in a re-consideration of including God in their platform. It appeared to me that those who opposed the idea of including God out-shouted those who supported including God; nevertheless, after two more votes Villaraigosa declared the motion approved.

Having God mentioned by either party’s platform may or may not make any difference in America’s attitude about God. It is very clear that there are those among us who would eliminate any thought or mention of God in the public dialogue. They want God out of the picture altogether. They have no regard for God or Biblical truth.

I believe that the Bible is God’s word; that it teaches us that God is the Creator of life and therefore every life deserves our very best care and protection. I will not, cannot, as a Bible believing Christian vote for a candidate, regardless of their political affiliation, who supports abortion. Furthermore, since the Bible clearly teaches that marriage is between one man and one woman, I will not, cannot, vote for a candidate who supports same-sex marriage. God will bring increasing judgment on America if we continue to move away from the clear teaching of the Bible. The Bible teaches that the nation that forgets God will inevitably experience God’s judgment.
