Hungry Horse Man Dies from Accidental Gunshot

By Beacon Staff

A Hungry Horse man is dead after playing with a revolver he thought was unloaded and accidentally shooting himself in the stomach.

According to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, Donald McPheeters, 54, was playing with a .22-caliber magnum revolver on Oct. 24 with the belief that it was unloaded. McPheeters pointed the gun at himself and pulled the trigger, and the gunshot hit him in the abdomen.

Medical personnel were dispatched, but McPheeters died at the scene. Investigators say alcohol was a factor in this incident.
