Blackfeet Color Guard Travels to Portland

The Blackfeet Warriors Society, an American Indian color guard, will be traveling to Portland, Ore. next week to honor fallen veterans at an NBA game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 8. The game will be aired on national television.

Blackfeet Tribal spokesperson Roxanne DeMarce said the warriors’ society is one of the most requested American Indian color guards in the country. The delegation traveling to Portland next week will be made up of five veterans and two active-duty military personnel. The group will spend the entire week in Portland, visiting with veterans and school groups. DeMarce wrote that the group plans on teaching young people “that the cost of freedom comes at a high price, and that veterans deserve to be honored, thanked and remembered.

The Trail Blazers and Clippers face off at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday night. The game will be shown on TNT.
