Flathead Edges Glacier, Advances to State Volleyball Semifinals

Flathead and Glacier battled to five sets in an exciting quarterfinals match at the Class AA state volleyball tournament in Bozeman last night.

The Bravettes edged the Wolfpack 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 15-9 and advanced to tonight’s semifinal showdown with top-ranked Billings Senior. The match between the two No. 1 seeds is at 6 p.m. and the winner moves on to Saturday’s state championship. Glacier drops to loser-out action at 2 p.m. today against the winner of Billings Skyview and Helena Capital.

Against Glacier, Kwyn Johnson led Flathead with 19 kills, Jessica Simmons had three aces, Emily Russell had 50 assists, Sarah Risenhover had four blocks and Nouf Rashoodi had 19 digs. For the Wolfpack, Cassi Hashley led with 14 kills, Hannah Liss had six aces and 39 assists. Tiffany Marks had two blocks and Kailea Vaudt had 19 digs.

Flathead won its first-round match against Billings West 25-16, 25-17, 25-23. Glacier won its opener against Bozeman 25-12, 25-22, 17-25, 25-17.

In Class A, Columbia Falls fell to Corvallis in the opener, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23. The Wildkats play Belgrade at noon in loser-out action.
