GREAT FALLS — A man arrested in northwestern Montana after fleeing British Columbia with his 3-year-old son during a supervised visit has been extradited to Canada to face charges.
KFBB-TV reports the Flathead County sheriff’s department released Robert Barnett to the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service on Sunday to transport him back to Canada.
Barnett was arrested in Whitefish last Friday after a resident there heard about the Amber Alert for Alvin Barnett. Officials learned the boy and his father crossed into the United States at the Port of Roosville on Thursday afternoon. The two slept in a car in Whitefish last Thursday night.
Barnett faces an abduction charge in Fernie, British Columbia.
