Police in Kalispell are investigating a stabbing that left one man hospitalized and another man jailed.
Officers say a 25-year-old man called 911 on Tuesday to report he had been beaten up and stabbed by a man who then took his vehicle.
About 30 minutes later, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper spotted a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle pulling out of a gas station and traveling southbound in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 93. The trooper stopped the vehicle, discovered the driver to be under the influence of alcohol.
KCFW-TV reports 50-year-old William Irvin Smith Jr., of Kalispell was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a weapon.
Police say the victim was being treated at Kalispell Regional Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.
