Flathead National Forest Names New Campground Concessionaire

By Beacon Staff

After reviewing proposals, Flathead National Forest Supervisor Chip Weber selected Barta Enterprises, Inc. of West Yellowstone to operate and maintain forest recreation facilities on the Flathead National Forest.

“I am pleased that Barta Enterprises will be working with us to manage these facilities,” Weber said in a statement. “They have a proven track record operating Forest Service campgrounds in Montana. Barta will be taking on a diverse group of campgrounds and we are excited to begin working with them to prepare for the 2013 season.”

Barta Enterprises successfully bid on two campground prospectus packages which includes Big Creek, Doris Point Boat Launch, Doris Creek, Devil Creek, Emery Bay, Lid Creek, Lost Johnny Point, Lost Johnny Camp, Murray Bay, Riverside, Holland Lake, Owl Creek Packer Camp and Swan Lake Day Use and Campground and Tally Lake Campground. Barta Enterprises will operate under the working name Flathead Valley Campgrounds.

Private concessionaire operations are designed to benefit the public by reducing the cost of government operations while maintaining a high level of service. Although a private concessionaire performs the routine operation and maintenance of the recreation sites, the Forest Service maintains the management responsibility.
