History of Montana Weddings on Display at Central Museum

By Beacon Staff

The diverse and exciting history of weddings in Montana is on display this month at The Museum at Central School in Kalispell. The traveling exhibit, “I Do: A Cultural History of Montana Weddings,” is from the Montana Historical Society and opened earlier this month. The exhibit is on display through the end of February.

The display features historic pictures, old wedding dresses and vintage bridal catalogs. It also explores the social lives of early Montanans. Curator Martha Kohl said weddings of hundred years ago are much different than the ones we know today.

“In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, wedding dresses, even fancy wedding dresses, came in all colors – not just white. And many were designed for brides to wear again,” she said.

Kohl will also be the featured presenter at the museum’s John White series presentation on Sunday, Jan. 27. Tickets are $9 and the talk starts at 2:30 p.m.
