O’Brien Byrd, the boys soccer coach at Whitefish High, was named the top prep coach in the nation after another undefeated state championship season.
Byrd earned the Division II National Coach of the Year award at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Indianapolis last weekend.
The NSCAA recognizes national and regional coaches of the year at the college, high school and youth levels.
Byrd won the NSCAA regional honor for the Rocky Mountains in December.
Last season the Bulldogs claimed their second straight Class A state championship and fourth under Byrd. In 10 seasons as head coach, Byrd has accrued a career record of 105-27-16. He won his 100th career game this past season against his high school alma mater, Columbia Falls.
