Baker Leading Lady Griz to the Top of Big Sky Standings

By Beacon Staff

The University of Montana women’s basketball team has won five games in a row and is in first place in the Big Sky Conference. The Lady Griz are 16-5 overall and 10-2 in conference.

On Monday, Katie Baker, a senior from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week after leading her team to a pair of home wins recently.

Baker had 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals in last week’s 72-61 win over Portland State as Montana overcame an eight-point second-half deficit. Baker scored 22 points in Saturday’s 76-51 victory over Eastern Washington.

Baker is 39 points shy of moving into the top 10 on Montana’s career scoring list. She ranks second in the Big Sky in scoring during league games at 16.7 points per game, and ranks fourth in both rebounding (8.5/g) and blocks (1.6/g) and is just outside of the top 10 in shooting percentage.

On Thursday the Lady Griz will face second-place Northern Colorado in the Big Sky’s spotlight game at Greeley, Colo. UNC is unbeaten at home this season.
