The Flathead Avalanche Center and other local partners are hosting an avalanche safety awareness event at the Whitefish Moose Lodge on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The program will run from 6:30-8 p.m. with an opportunity to socialize afterward.
The free program will focus on decision-making when traveling in avalanche country.
Program presenters include:
— Mark Dundas with Big Mountain Ski Patrol Inc. discussing the backcountry around Whitefish Mountain Resort.
— Steve Burgland with Flathead Nordic Backcountry Patrol and Erich Peitzsch, Snow Scientist with USGS, discussing recent incidents.
— Seth Carbonari with USFS and the Flathead Avalanche Center about the Flathead Avalanche Center.
