Columbia Falls’ Roberts Quickly Grabs Second Wrestling Title

Columbia Falls sophomore Shonn Roberts barely spent seven and a half minutes wrestling at the state tournament in Billings and emerged with his second Class A championship in as many years.

Roberts landed his fourth-straight pin in the 112-pound title match against Zach Wall of Billings Central. Roberts pinned Wall in three minutes and eight seconds for a weekend best of 7:47 in four matches. Roberts earned the tournament’s Quick Pin Award for winning in the shortest amount of time all weekend. Roberts won his opening round match in 38 seconds and second round match in 47 seconds. His third pin in a row in the semifinals took 3:14.

Fellow Class A contender Dylan Moll of Polson earned second in the 125-pound division.

Libby’s Mitch Haugen earned second in the 135-pound division. Libby’s Austin Bailey finished second in the 171-pound division.

Columbia Falls’ Cameron Linstead earned third place in the 105-pound division.

Carlos Quinones of Polson earned third place at 119 pounds. Libby’s Zach Crace earned third after defeating Seth McCall from Columbia Falls at 125 pounds.

Havre won its first Class A team title since 2010, with 233.5 points. Havre won four consecutive championships between 2007-10. Sydney earned second place with 207. Belgrade was third, 172.5. Columbia Falls earned sixth place with 132 points. Frenchtown was eighth, 101. Libby was ninth, 89.5.
