Kalispell Officers Arrest Washington Murder Suspect

By Beacon Staff

Local law enforcement officers arrested a 24-year-old man wanted in connection with the stabbing death of his mother in Elk, Wash.

Matthew Swancara was arrested without incident Monday afternoon in Kalispell.

The Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call at an Elk home about 8:41 p.m. Sunday and discovered 56-year-old Sally Swancara dead from apparent stab wounds.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Questin Youk says Matthew Swancara had fled the scene prior to their arrival.

Authorities in Montana were notified because Matthew Swancara has ties to the state.

Pend Oreille County Sheriff Alan Botzheim tells KCFW-TV that a man reportedly encountered Swancara as he was hitchhiking Monday and called authorities.
