Tournament of Champions Features 63 Wrestlers From Across Montana

By Beacon Staff

Senior wrestlers from across the state have been selected for the fifth annual Montana Tournament of Champions wrestling event.

The personal injury law firm of Hoyt and Blewett PLLC in Great Falls is sponsoring the annual one-day, single elimination all-star wrestling tournament. The event is in Great Falls Feb. 16.

The Tournament of Champions will feature 63 of the top wrestlers from classes AA, A, and B/C, including 26 state champs from last week’s All-Class State Wrestling tournament in Billings.

The field includes several repeat state champions including three-time state champions Grant Boggs of Helena High and Bryce Weatherston of Belgrade and two-time state champions Jake Leinwand of Billings West, Gage Currier of Colstrip, Tucker Yates of Colstrip, Brandon Weber of Forsyth, Matt Weber of Forsyth, Bryan Armstrong of Anaconda, and Tyler Kinn of Glendive.

The semifinals will be held Saturday morning at Paris Gibson Education Center, 2400 Central Ave. at 10 A.M., followed by the championships at 12:00 PM. Ticket prices are $5 for students, and $8 for adults.

Weigh-ins will be Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. and all wrestlers will be given a five pound weight allowance over that required at the state tournament.

CMR wrestling coach and publisher of the Montana Recruiter Wrestling Magazine, Eric Hinebauch, said he is excited to watch the tournament and believes the event will be “well worth the price of admission.”
