Advisory: Avalanche Hazard Conditions Worsen

By Beacon Staff

Backcountry avalanche conditions are considerably dangerous on wind-loaded terrain in Northwest Montana, according to the latest advisory from the Flathead Avalanche Center.

The FAC released its regular update on Tuesday and described the local avalanche conditions as dangerous, with the possibility of natural avalanches occurring and human-triggered avalanches likely.

The avalanche hazard could elevate with heavy snow and gusty winds forecasted in the near future, the advisory said.

Terrain that has not been “wind loaded” is considered moderately dangerous, with natural slides unlikely and human-triggered slides possible.

No recent natural avalanche activity has been observed, according to the advisory.
