Youth Skiers Cap Successful Season

Members of the Whitefish Mountain Resort race team and Blacktail Mountain Alpine team competed at the Northern Division Youth Ski League Championship at Big Sky Resort, March 15-17. The season finale event featured giant slalom, slalom and technical kombi competition with over 200 alpine racers from Montana and South Dakota.

The Blacktail team of eight brought home four first-place trophies, a second place trophy and nine medals.

In the highly competitive U14 race, Jacques Eve earned first place in his age division and claimed first overall, earning the Men’s Super Combined YSL Championship title for 2013. Teammate Dawson Rinehart finished strongly to secure a fourth-place medal.

Eve and Rinehart advanced to the Sun Valley Championships in Idaho. Eve, a 13-year-old, has 17 podium finishes out of 20 starts this season, including eight victories and seven second-place place finishes.

Rayce Neill placed seventh and fifth in multiple events in the U12 (ages 10 and 11) division.

For the girl’s 8 & 9 year olds, Stringer placed fifth. Audrey Metzler earned second and fifth in her age group competitions.

On the Whitefish team, earning top 10 finishes throughout the weekend were: Ashby Dominick (6th), Tess Lewison (9th, 7th, 8th), Marina Kramer (6th, 5th) Cameron Kahle (7th) Liam Nelson (4th, 10th, 4th), William Lewison (9th, 9th), Ian Calaway (10th, 8th, 9th), Elizabeth Spradlin (4th), Zane Elliott (5th), Peyton Charest (5th, 7th), Douglas Mercer (6th, 10th), Ryder Elliott (4th), Walt Hollensteiner (6th) and Colter Upton (8th).
