POLSON – A 10-year-old St. Ignatius boy ordered held on $500,000 bail after allegedly violating the terms of a deferred prosecution agreement in a burglary and theft case has been moved from a juvenile detention center to a residential treatment center.
Lake County’s chief juvenile probation officer Barb Monaco tells KERR-AM the boy was moved from the Reintegrating Youthful Offenders facility in Galen to Acadia Montana in Butte on Thursday after the first day of a court-ordered neuropsychological evaluation.
District Judge Kim Christopher released the boy from the detention center on his own recognizance with the requirement that he be admitted to the treatment center. The center’s website says it treats children ages 8 to 18 who have behavior, emotional and psychiatric disorders.
The boy’s grandmother, Dorinda Buck, protested the $500,000 bail, but prosecutors said the boy had missed three evaluations scheduled over the past 14 months and had missed nine of 15 counseling appointments since January.
Deputy County Attorney Cory Allen said the school reported the boy’s violent behavior was escalating and that he was kicking, punching and tripping other children without provocation.
