By Beacon Staff

The National Park Service released the identity of a Washington State man who died this week in Glacier National Park. Charles Fred Huseman, 64, of Packwood, Wash. died from bodily trauma sustained during a fall in the Rim Rock area, about a mile west of Logan Pass. Witnesses say the man had been hiking alone on the Highline Trail when he slipped and fell.

At approximately 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, a ranger called park dispatch requesting medical assistance. The ranger administered CPR and used an automated external defibrillator with the assistance of bystanders. The individual was declared dead at the scene. The body was transferred to the Flathead County coroner and then to a local mortuary.

The Highline Trail was closed at the time of the accident due to snow dangers. In Wednesday’s press release, the National Park Service reminded visitors that winter conditions still exist in many locations in the high country, including Logan Pass. Hikers should be cautious when walking on snow and be alert of slides and changing weather conditions.
