Local Rugby Player Picks up Division I Scholarship

By Beacon Staff

It’s not often you hear about high school athletes in Montana receiving college scholarships for rugby, but that’s what Dawson Day landed.

The Glacier High graduate signed to compete at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia. Day competed for the local Black and Blue high school club team, which won the 2012 state championship. His talents earned him a shot at playing Division 1 rugby in West Virginia. The Cardinals recently moved up from Division I-AA to compete in the Rugby East Conference against some of the strongest teams in the nation, including Penn State, The U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the University of Delaware.
