By Beacon Staff

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Michael Cooper, the 1987 Defensive Player of the Year and a five-time NBA champion, is holding a youth basketball camp in Pablo at the end of the month.

Cooper’s camp is July 31 through Aug. 2 at the Joe McDonald gym at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. The three-day camp is for boys and girls in grades 3-12. Cost is $125 and includes lunch, t-shirt and awards to the top 10 players in each gender. Registration closes July 28. Cooper will coach players on his “Five D’s: defense, desire, dedication, decision making and determination.” He will also teach other skills that were part of the Lakers’ success during the 1980s, when the team won NBA titles in 1980, ’82, ’85, ’87 and ’88.

Registration forms can be picked up at the Flathead Beacon’s office at 17 Main Street in Kalispell. For more information, contact Monty Marengo at 406-212-1699.
