MISSOULA — Former University of Montana guard Will Cherry is on the roster of the New Orleans Pelicans of the NBA summer league.
The team began its season in Las Vegas on Friday afternoon with a game against the New York Knicks.
Cherry tells KECI-TV that he’s excited for the chance to play against top-level competition and prove that he belongs at that level.
His teammates include former Stanford standout Josh Owens and Darius Miller, who played on the University of Kentucky’s 2012 national championship team. Another teammate is Austin Rivers, the 10th pick of the 2012 draft and son of former NBA player and LA Clippers coach Doc Rivers.
