Montana Democrats to Hold Convention in Lewistown

By Beacon Staff

The Montana Democratic Party is holding its bi-annual convention in Lewistown July 12-13 to prepare for a key election year in 2014.

Delegates at the convention will pick a new chair and make adjustments to the party’s existing rules. Party officials said the convention is also an opportunity for supporters to carry over the momentum from last year’s wins.

“All the success we’ve ever had is thanks to grassroots Democrats knocking on doors and talking to their neighbors about the issues they care about,” the state Democratic Party Executive Director Andrea Marcoccio said in a statement.

“This convention is another opportunity for Montana Democrats to make sure their values shape the direction of our state.”

Top elected Democrats including Sen. Jon Tester, Gov. Steve Bullock and Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau are expected to speak, as supporters turn their focus to electing a new chair on Saturday.

“The Montana Democratic Party is as strong and unified as ever, thanks to the wins we’ve banked at the ballot box,” added Marcoccio.
