Temporary Road Closures on the Flathead National Forest

By Beacon Staff

There are three temporary road closures on the Flathead National Forest, ranging from a few hours to a few months. There will be access or alternative routes on all three projects, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Forest officials are urging residents to use extra caution when approaching or moving through work areas.

The Spotted Bear Ranger District began work July 15 on the Willow Creek culvert replacement. The project is located past Meadow Creek Trailhead on the NFSR #549 (Gorge Creek Road). During the project, users may encounter short delays or reduced speeds. Access remains open to both the Gorge Creek and Bunk Creek Trailheads. Contact the Spotted Bear Ranger Station for additional information, 758-5376.

The Tally Lake Ranger District will be replacing a culvert on July 16 on NFSR #313 (Logan Creek.) The road will be closed for about four hours near mile marker 0.14 for the culvert replacement.

Logan Creek is part of a loop in the Star Meadows area. This will allow people to still access homes and trails beyond the construction area by taking Bill Creek Road. Contact the Tally Lake Ranger Station for additional information, 758-5204.

The Swan Lake Ranger District is temporarily closing National Forest System Road (NFSR) #9507 Lower Bond Creek from the junction of NFSR #9507 and # 9514 to its end. This closure is to provide safety during the Six Mile Fuels Stewardship harvesting (logging) activities.

The gate will close at 1 p.m. on July 19 and may reopen by mid-September. The trailhead for the Bond Lake Trail across the highway from the Swan Guard Station is still open which provides access to the trail. There will be periodic harvesting activity adjacent to the trail and users are asked to use caution. Contact the Swan Lake Ranger Station for additional information, 837-7500.
