HELENA – The state is asking a federal court to dismiss former Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Hill’s request that it intervene in pending complaint over a large campaign donation.
Last month, Hill asked the U.S. District Court in Helena to block the commissioner of political practices from acting on a complaint over a $500,000 donation to the Hill campaign.
The donation came after a federal judge briefly struck down Montana’s campaign donation limits. A federal appeals court is reviewing that decision.
The state filed a brief Monday asking the court to toss out Hill’s request for intervention.
The state argues that Hill has not been injured because the commissioner of political practices has yet to issue a decision — which is on hold until the federal case over donation limits is resolved.
