Baucus Announces Dugan as New State Director

By Beacon Staff

U.S. Sen. Max Baucus has named a new state director to run his Montana offices.

Baucus said Friday that Brianne Dugan of Bozeman will be replacing John Lewis. Dugan has worked for Baucus since 2005, most recently as deputy state director.

Baucus announced earlier this year that he will not be running for another term in 2014. The Democrat’s surprise announcement has created the possibility the state could have two open congressional seats.

Lewis is considered a potential candidate for the U.S. House amid speculation that Republican U.S. Rep. Steve Daines will pursue Baucus’ Senate seat.

Lewis said in a statement he will explore other opportunities that will allow him to continue in public service.

Baucus lauded Lewis for playing “a critical role” in his work serving Montana constituents.
