Divers Recover Body of Missing Huson Man on Flathead Lake

By Beacon Staff

Searchers discovered the body of a 36-year-old Huson man near an island on the south end of Flathead Lake.

Lake County spokesperson Karen Sargeant said divers found the body of Nathan Bird near Big Bull Island around 12:20 p.m. Thursday. Bird’s body was located nearly 80 feet under water.

Bird was reported missing Aug. 25 after an area resident saw his boat adrift on the lake with only a dog onboard.

Lake and Flathead county authorities teamed up for the search, which carried on throughout the week with cadaver dogs and sonar devices.

Sargeant said search dogs found signs that cued crews into a specific location on Thursday and sent three divers — two from Flathead County and one from Lake — underwater.

Bird’s body is being transported to the State Crime Lab in Missoula to determine the cause of death, Sargeant said.

“Lake County is very grateful for the assistance of Flathead County during this effort,” she said. “It’s through these cooperative partnerships between our two law enforcement agencies that we can come to a resolution in a tragic situation like this.”

The search for DelRay Saeman, another boater missing in Placid Lake since Friday, is on hold until volunteer groups can resume.
