FWP Seeking Information on Poached Moose near Bozeman

By Beacon Staff

BOZEMAN — State wildlife officials are asking for help in learning who illegally shot and killed a cow moose in the Hyalite area south of Bozeman.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials say someone called to report the dead moose on Saturday and added that a calf was in the area.

Wardens determined the moose had been shot twice, likely from the road, sometime between Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning. Moose hunting season does not open until Sept. 15.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-847-6668. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

The calf is at least a year old and healthy. Wardens believe it has a fair chance of survival without its mother.
