Amtrak Brings Back Whitefish Travel Promotion

By Beacon Staff

The Whitefish Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced the return of a winter Amtrak promotion that offers 20 percent off the regular full adult rail fare to Whitefish.

Discounted tickets aboard the historic Empire Builder train can be purchased now through April 11, 2014 for advance reservations a minimum of three days prior to travel. Up to two children ages 2 to 15 may accompany each adult at half the discounted adult rail fare.

“This is a very successful promotion that has been offered for the past five years,” said Jan Metzmaker, director of the WCVB. “Last year, we had our best season ever and we are really pleased with the strong partnership we have with Amtrak. Skiers and snowboarders who take advantage of this promotion give a huge boost to our local economy during the slower winter months.”

Guests can also package discounted Amtrak tickets with Whitefish lodging, car rentals and lift tickets, as well as additional discounts that are not available on the coach offer by calling Flathead Travel Service at 1-800-553-3400. A $25 travel agent fee applies to bookings. Additional ski packages can also be found at

Whitefish is one of Amtrak’s busiest stops on the Empire Builder route that travels between Seattle and Chicago. More than 66,000 visitors come to Whitefish annually via the passenger train.
