Joe Stone Can’t Quit

By Beacon Staff

The 52-miles of Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road were no match for Joe Stone, who after being paralyzed from the waist down in a paragliding accident in 2010 biked it in 2011. Now, Stone, 28 of Missoula, will be competing in the Ironman Florida race on Nov. 2. The race includes a 2.4-mile swim, an 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run.

Completing such a race would be an accomplishment for anyone, but if Stone crosses the finish line it’ll be even more impressive, considering he’ll only be using his arms, just like he did in 2011 on the Sun Road.

The Missoulian’s AJ Mazzolini has a great story about Stone and his recent accomplishments that is worth a read. You can also read the Flathead Beacon’s profile from 2011, just a year after he was paralyzed.

Best of luck to Joe in Florida.
