By Beacon Staff

Authorities are searching for a missing 65-year-old Kalispell man after discovering an overturned kayak on the Flathead River yesterday.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said deputies and members of search and rescue recovered an overturned kayak just south of the Sportsman’s Bridge on Highway 82 in the early afternoon on Monday. Further investigation revealed the kayak belonged to a 65-year-old Kalispell man who reportedly went duck hunting along the Flathead River early Monday.

The subject’s vehicle was located at the Sportsman fishing access. A water, ground and air search was conducted yesterday afternoon and evening without results, Curry said. The search resumed Tuesday morning with sonar and K-9 assets from search and rescue.

Anyone who may have observed the subject in a bright green kayak duck hunting yesterday morning is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 758-5610.
