State Seeks Comment on Replacing Hungry Horse Bridge

By Beacon Staff

The Montana Department of Transportation is proposing a bridge replacement project over the South Fork Flathead River on U.S. 2, west of Hungry Horse.

DOT is seeking public comments on the proposal to replace the old bridge. The project begins at reference post 141.2 and extends east 1.2 miles ending near the intersection of U.S. 2 and River Junction Road. Proposed work includes removal of the existing bridge, construction of a new bridge on a new alignment, as well as roadwork at the bridge ends to tie the new bridge into the existing roadway.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2017 depending on completion of design and availability of funds, according to DOT. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities will be required.

MDT staff will contact all affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits.

Members of the public can submit written comments to the DOT Missoula office at PO Box 7039, Missoula MT 59807-7039, or online.
