Daines to Announce Senate Decision on Wednesday

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – U.S. Rep. Steve Daines confirms that he will announce this week whether he will run for the U.S. Senate.

Daines had previously scheduled a “special event” in Bozeman on Wednesday to thank supporters. He confirmed in an advisory released to The Associated Press Monday that he will use the appearance to announce his plans.

Republicans widely expect Daines to run for the seat being vacated by Democratic U.S. Sen. Max Baucus.

The advisory did not indicate what the freshman Republican’s decision will be.

Daines has been raising money consistent with a Senate run. Other GOP candidates have put together campaigns to replace Daines in the House, assuming the seat will be open.

On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. John Walsh has launched his own Senate campaign.
