Bullock Backs Walsh in Senate Democratic Primary

By Beacon Staff

HELENA — Gov. Steve Bullock says he supports Lt. Gov. John Walsh in the developing Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.

Walsh was Bullock’s running mate last year in their successful election. The former National Guard commander is an early favorite of many Democrats for the party’s nomination to replace the retiring U.S. Sen. Max Baucus.

But former Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger recently announced he is switching parties to run as a Democrat for the office. His former boss, Brian Schweitzer, has said he is not taking sides in the fight.

But Bullock said Friday that he is sticking with his initial decision to back Walsh. Both U.S. Sens. Baucus and Tester are helping Walsh.

National party leaders irked Bohlinger by trying to convince him to stay out of the race.
