Relatives Hand Over Three Children Reported Missing

By Beacon Staff

POLSON — Relatives have handed over three children reported missing and believed to be with their father, who does not have legal custody of them.

The Missoulian reports the children were turned over to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Thursday after the Montana Department of Justice issued an advisory.

Flathead Tribal Police Chief Craig Couture says the children were in their mother’s custody in Lapwai, Idaho, until she was incarcerated. Another family member who took them in also was jailed. The children’s father, Kortny Duback, then picked up the children.

The Nez Perce Tribe asked for assistance from Flathead reservation authorities in locating them.

Couture says arrest warrants for Duback and two relatives are being issued.

He says the 7- and 3-year-old girls and the 5-year-old boy will be turned over to Nez Perce reservation authorities.
