Flathead County Unemployment Rate Slightly Upticks

Flathead County’s unemployment rate encountered a slight uptick in October, according to the latest state workforce data.

The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 6 percent to 6.6 percent between August and October, according to the Montana Department of Labor and Industry. Information for September was not available due to the government shutdown.

Lincoln County had the second worst unemployment rate, 12.4 percent, last month. Big Horn County had the highest, 15.2 percent. Sanders County was third highest, 10.1 percent, and Glacier was fourth, 9.7 percent.

Montana’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 5.2 percent in October, after holding at 5.3 percent since July.

The national unemployment rate was 7.3 percent in October.

Labor Commissioner Pam Bucy says Montana added over 750 jobs in September, but lost 57 in October.

The state has added 1,722 jobs since October 2012.

Montana’s unemployment rate was as low as 3.1 percent in late 2006 and rose as high as 6.8 percent in the second half of 2010. It has been on a downward trend since mid-2011.
