By Beacon Staff

A Whitefish man is in the intensive care unit at Kalispell Regional Medical Center after being stabbed in the chest on Monday evening.

According to Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial, Chad Newton, 37, received emergency surgery after his wife, AnnMari Newton, 39, allegedly stabbed him during an altercation.

Law enforcement received the emergency call at about 6 p.m. on Nov. 25, and officers arrived at the residence on the 1100 block of Obrien Avenue, where they found Chad Newton in the kitchen with a stab wound in the left side of his chest.

Dial said initial reports indicate that a verbal domestic dispute precipitated the incident. The couple has two children who were home at the time of the incident and who were not injured. Child Protective Services has placed them in the custody of a family friend.

AnnMari Newton is being held in the Flathead County Detention Center pending charges being filed by the Flathead County Attorney’s Office.
