MISSOULA — Officials in Missoula say an undercover police officer and a suspect were shot during a drug bust in front of a fitness center on Reserve Street.

Missoula County Sheriff Carl Ibsen says the officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon with non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting happened at about 2:20 p.m.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Paige Pavalone says the suspect fired at the police officer and a sheriff’s deputy involved in the operation shot the suspect.

Both the police officer and the deputy are members of a drug task force.

A second man escaped on foot. He is described as being a white man in his late 20s about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with facial hair and wearing a black shirt and pants.
