BILLINGS — A man who chained himself to a cement-filled drum to protest the slaughter of bison migrating from Yellowstone National Park is facing federal charges in Wyoming.
Twenty-year-old Comfrey Jacobs is scheduled to be arraigned April 2 on charges of disorderly conduct, entering a closed area and interference. Jacobs lives in Colorado but has been residing in West Yellowstone.
Court documents indicate prosecutors will not be seeking jail time in the case.
Jacobs chained himself to the 50-gallon drum and blocked the road to the Stephens Creek corrals near the park border on March 6. Park officials were holding bison in the corrals to await shipment for slaughter
More than 250 bison were slaughtered this winter as part of government efforts to reduce the size of Yellowstone’s bison herds.
