Three Bison Illegally Killed Inside Yellowstone Park

By Beacon Staff

BILLINGS — Authorities are asking for help in identifying who shot and killed three bison inside Yellowstone National Park.

Park officials said Tuesday that the animals were likely shot sometime between the evening of March 13 and the morning of March 15 along a road in the Blacktail Plateau area.

Federal law prohibits killing or removing animals from inside the park. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the conviction of those responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call 307-344-2132.

Hunting for bison that migrate into areas of Montana outside the park is legal. So far this season hunters have taken 316 of the animals since last fall. Hundreds more have been captured and shipped to slaughter in an effort to reduce the animals’ population.
