Police Seek Charges Against 5 in Bozeman Inmate Escape

By Beacon Staff

BOZEMAN — Police in Bozeman are recommending charges be filed against five people suspected of helping an attempted rape suspect escape from the Gallatin County Law & Justice Center on Feb. 1 and elude capture for three weeks.

Gallatin County Attorney Marty Lambert tells KWYB-TV (http://bit.ly/1haenLp ) that Bozeman police found evidence that five people helped 28-year-old Kevin Anthony Briggs while he was on the run for nearly three weeks before being arrested in Portland, Ore., on Feb. 21.

Lambert says the alleged accomplices could face charges of obstructing justice, while one could be charged with tampering with evidence.

Briggs pleaded not guilty Monday to attempted sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated assault, assault on a peace officer, escape and failing to register as a sex offender during the time he was on the run.
