EXPLORE: Dummy Derby and Winter Brewfest

By Beacon Staff

As the ski season winds down, it’s easy to find an excuse to squeeze in as many trips to Whitefish Mountain Resort as possible, but no excuse is better than the March 29 Dummy Derby and Winter Brewfest.

The Big Mountain Commercial Association will hosts its annual Winter Brewfest on Saturday as a fundraiser for the Shuttle Network of Whitefish (SNOW) buses’ operational costs. The BMCA controls the SNOW buses’ day-to-day operations, though the group maintains a tight relationship with Whitefish Mountain Resort. The resort pays the lion’s share of the SNOW bus’ expenses through a large sponsorship.

The annual Dummy Derby also takes place on the mountain on March 29. Participants attach dummies, which rules stipulate cannot currently be nor ever were living or breathing, to skis or snowboards then launch them off a jump on Lower Ed’s Run.

Entries must be family friendly, under 125 pounds and made of safe, non-toxic materials.

The season wraps up April 5-6, with the annual Pond Skim competition on Saturday, April 5.

Brewfest – 1-5 p.m. at Upper Village. Cost is $25.? Dummy Derby – Dummies launch at 4:30 p.m. Free at the Upper Village.?
